The Marshall Liberal Government’s plan to deliver real time fuel pricing for South Australians is one-step closer after legislation passed the State Parliament today.

The legislation will mandate South Australian petrol stations to disclose their prices to a central database within half an hour of them changing.

Attorney-General, Vickie Chapman said Government would now move quickly to procure a company to run the central database, following the findings from the South Australian Productivity Commission.

“This is a real win for South Australian motorists, who will soon have real time fuel pricing information available to them at the tip of their fingers,” Attorney-General Chapman said.

“Real time fuel pricing is a critical component of the Marshall Government’s policies delivering cost of living relief to South Australian households.

“Giving motorists the ability to easily find where the cheapest fuel is available will provide welcome relief for South Australians struggling to make ends meet. 

“The next phase is tendering out for a business to aggregate fuel pricing information for any app or website to access.

“This is the same scheme that is currently in place in Queensland, where motorists have been able to make informed choices and find the cheapest prices at any given time.

“It’s my aim to have this database up and running for spring and will continue to update the public on when the information will be available for them to use.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the RAA, who have been fierce advocates for a real time fuel pricing scheme.”
