Successful exploration applicants announced

The State Liberal Government has announced the first round of successful applicants for its $10 million Accelerated Discovery fund which will assist in driving jobs and investment in South Australia’s resources industry during these difficult times.

The 14 successful applicants for the ADI were announced today during Copper to the World Online – the first major international copper conference since the onset of the pandemic.

Minister for Energy and Mining Dan van Holst Pellekaan said the government selected the successful applicants for Accelerated Discovery Initiative (ADI) funding from a competitive range of candidates, with many pushing the boundaries of conventional exploration.

“The resources sector underpins South Australia’s economy and the ADI is designed to deliver a pipeline of investment into the future,” said Minister van Holst Pellekaan.

“Several of the funded proposals from the $2.9 million first round are directed at targets in frontier exploration districts where successful outcomes have the potential to open up new search spaces.

“The South Australian Government is keen to push the boundaries of traditional exploration and may just bring us a step closer to uncovering the next Olympic Dam or Carrapateena-class deposit.

“Our state has developed one of the world’s most sustainable and technologically-advanced mining sectors.

“The Accelerated Discovery Initiative seeks to build on that foundation by encouraging proposals that contemplate both existing and emerging technologies and exploration techniques.

“South Australia’s international leadership in exploration innovation has ensured stable production, and the integration of new methodologies in mineral exploration will position the state to capture ongoing future success.

Minister van Holst Pellekaan said the focus of this year’s Copper to the World conference is growing exports and jobs while developing opportunities for existing and emergent supply chain companies.

“Copper to the World showcases South Australia’s global attractiveness and vibrant copper sector, and will positively influence investment decisions, attract excellence in innovation, and cement our reputation as one of the best global investment destinations for copper,” he said.

“Our vision through the ADI and this conference is to enhance the reputation of what is already one of the world’s most sustainable and technologically-advanced mining regions for investors.”
