Glowing report on Marshall Government’s energy plan

The Australian Energy Market Operator’s (AEMO) report into South Australia’s electricity system released today has strongly endorsed the Marshall Government’s plan to deliver more reliable and affordable energy to South Australia.

Today’s AEMO South Australian Electricity Report highlights the importance of the Marshall Government’s Home Battery Scheme, interconnection to New South Wales, and the Virtual Power Plant.

“It is particularly important that AEMO cites the Marshall Government’s Home Battery Scheme amongst the recent policy changes so critical to South Australia’s future energy needs,” said Minister for Energy and Mining Dan van Holst Pellekaan.

“Under the Home Battery Scheme up to 40,000 households will enjoy reduced electricity prices as a result of the grants up to $6,000 for a home battery and low interest loans for the balance of home energy schemes.

“The installation of 40,000 batteries will reduce demand on the grid which will ultimately result in lower prices for all South Australian households.

“This program is already up and running and I urge all South Australians to see whether a home battery is right for their circumstances.

“The report also supports our calls for an interconnector with NSW highlighting it would ‘improve system security and resilience’ (page 6).”

As the AEMO Report notes: It is critical that the investment environment and regulatory mechanisms are capable of supporting a smooth transition … to maintain reliability and security as current generation retires (page 3).

“South Australia’s statewide blackout and high electricity prices highlights just how dismally the former Labor Government failed to ensure South Australia an orderly transition to renewable energy,” said Minister Dan van Holst Pellekaan.

“The Marshall Liberal Government is dedicated to fixing the problems Labor created in South Australia’s electricity system.”
