Member for Stuart, Dan van Holst Pellekaan, has welcomed the Marshall Government’s announcement that $11 million will be spent on two important infrastructure projects in the Stuart electorate.
“$8 million has been budgeted to upgrade the Gladstone level crossing for the extension of the rail loop servicing town’s silo site, with a further $3 million to be spent replacing the extremely narrow Spring Creek Bridge between Wilmington and Melrose,” Mr van Holst Pellekaan said.
“These projects form part of the broader $55 million Horrocks Highway upgrade, which also includes overtaking lanes, pavement correction and shoulder sealing.
“Horrocks Highway is a key transport route and local communities have campaigned strongly for these upgrades.
“I am very pleased the State Government has listened to local road users and is taking action to upgrade this route to improve safety and efficiency for all road users.”
It’s anticipated the Gladstone railway crossing upgrade will be completed by the first half of next year, while planning and design works for the Spring Creek Bridge will start in 2020 and the project completed in 2021.
